Reflective

I started this course in my second year at Murray. I was very worried since I am an international student. I knew that it would be very difficult for me to write and follow all the assignments in this class since my English level was not very good at all. However, in this course I learned many things and above all I learned to write much better and correctly. During the semester, I worked on the topic of obesity in my essay. Above all, I focused on reflecting that obesity is a very dangerous disease and that it is increasing more and more. In this essay I learned to argue and to be able to write coherently since the entire essay was intended to show this reality.

For this essay, I used several studies and tests which argued my essay. In my argument, I suggested many options to avoid obesity and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. I learned that obesity is widespread throughout the world but in the United States it was advancing faster. There are solutions to solve this problem such as campaigns in cities, eliminating products with a lot of sugars and many more that are developed in my essay. I learned a lot about citing texts, something I had never learned before, and I also learned to use other formats such as APA and MLA. APA citations go after the quotation marks in sentences, while MLA always go at the end, before the end-of-sentence marks.

Last but not least, I also learnt how to properly utilize parentheses and quotation marks to their fullest potential. Because of Professor Hammett, I am able to create a fantastic piece that is easy to read, straightforward, and succinct. Among the things I learned to do well, this was one of the most crucial. I believe my English, and particularly my writing, has gotten much better overall. This course has also helped me write more quickly and taught me how to support my ideas with evidence-based answers. I think this course was quite helpful for my writing and critical thinking in general, therefore I would definitely take it again.
